" She remains at the Johnson County Jail, where she has been held since her arrest – nearly a year ago – in lieu of a $100 bond."

This wasn’t for a parking ticket, she killed someone. Fuck her.
Awfully low bail, but I suspect no one wants to bail her out lest they risk the same fate as this woman’s “friend.”
Yeah, and drunk, to boot. BAL of .093. Let her stay there until her trial eventually takes place.
I don’t know that I’d consider a BAL of .093% to be actually drunk. Remember, until recently the limit for DUI (or is it DWI?) in the US was .1%
Impossible to know what really happened from that article. Did she purposely run over the friend or was she trying to escape an attack?
A BAC of .093 hardly qualifies as “drunk”.
A $100!?!?!?!?
You could raise that much by selling your old underwear. If the spare tire on her truck was in good shape that would have been enough.
Who in the world can’t come up with $100 in a years time? There’s more to this story someway. Maybe she doesn’t want out. She’s looking at 25 years (not enough for a drunk driving murder IMHO). Maybe she knows she’ll be found guilty so rather than screw around on the outside and then have a whole 25 to do she’s getting a running start since this last year will probably count toward her sentence. A bit of a long shot theory but I’m going with it until I hear something better.
It is a typo in that article. It should be a $100,000** cash-only **bond.
From the first link to another article at the bottom of the first:
Yeah, okay, this sounds better.
I’m now going with the typo theory.
Oh, that’s very different.
Never mind.

“… for sufficiently large values of 100.”
Still, any bailbondsman could come up with that much cash in short order. I guess she has zero credit and no-one willing to extend her any. Maybe it was her only friend she ran over. Sucks to be her.
It’s 0.08% in Iowa.
I also think there’s more to this story, and that the people who could potentially bail her out don’t want her around.
ETA: Never mind, I actually read the whole thread.
Yeah. It’s 0.08 in most places, but that’s for political reasons. It used to be at least 0.10 in most states, and even then is not really a line that means much.
It’s still considered driving under the influence under the law. If you were caught driving over the limit, I’m sure it would mean a great deal to you.
If she wasn’t drunk, she was malicious. She’d just had a fight with the woman she ran down.
StG
Okay…
Okay, what? :dubious: Am I missing something? Is the BAL limit not 0.08% in nearly all states? Is it not illegal to drive with a level of 0.093%? Why are people saying it is not a big deal? She was legally over the limit and is accused of vehicular homicide. In what world is that not considered a big deal? I’ve never been ticketed for DUI, but I understand it’s not something you want to happen to you. You spend at least a night in jail, find yourself retaining an attorney at some personal expense, and possibly losing your license. I know the legal limit used to be higher, but that’s irrelevant because that’s not what it is now. So please tell me, whether in your opinion a BAL of 0.093 is drunk or not, why does it not mean that much? It’s still driving under the influence. It’s a charge that is at least a hassle to get out of. And I don’t see how it’s not a contributing factor in the argument that led to the other woman’s death. Please fight my ignorance.
Having read earlier reports, it appears this was more of a negligent manslaughter than an intentional homicide. Both women had been drinking, began arguing, and then got into a fistfight. Lalla then decided to drive away. She and Gross were still arguing and Gross followed Lalla. When Lalla started her truck up she didn’t close the door. Gross was standing right next to the truck. Lalla put the truck in gear and began backing away. The door hit Gross and she was knocked down and fell under the truck.
