I happen to think there is something disturbing about a guy who wants to degrade his own wife in public like that. It wasn’t like it was something 7 of 9 was into, he brought her to a place he already knew she had no interest in and then started trying to coerce her into doing something she didn’t want to do. And he did it more than once. The guy’s a sleaze, not for going to a sex club but because he treated his wife like shit.
And don’t forget his is also the same guy who sent a cameraman to stalk his opponent 24 hours a day. There’s something seriously wrong with this dude.
The point, Diogenes, isn’t whether YOU find something perverse, it’s that sexual proclivities have no bearing on whether you can keep office. I think there’s something seriously wrong with folks who have sex only to procreate…but it doesn’t mean they don’t know government.
The Obama cameraman is a whole other stupid story and solidified why I wouldn’t vote for him. The sex club shouldn’t even be an issue.
Note how I refrained from the obvious joke about clubs being a standard tool in the conservative man’s sexual repertoire.
And Dewey, I figured that Ryan might try to appeal to the vast Trekkie male constituency, who would want to be sure that they had sex with Jeri Ryan in public so that there would be proof.
If he wants to go to sex clubs, whatever. But between the cameraman thing and the below passage from the court documents, all I can say is, what a freaking jerk.
But do you think how he treats his wife should be an issue? If Jack had asked once and then let the matter lie, or if Jeri had agreed to the idea (OUT of the gutter! Out, out, you naughty mind!) then I would agree with you completely.

Read Ravenman’s quote. I wasn’t judging his sexual proclivities, I was judging his disrespect for his wife. He’s an abusive asshole. The sex has nothing to do with it.
Given candidate Ryans smarmy public pronouncements regarding the sanctity of marriage, and his determination to protect and preserve if from the depradations of the Homintern, I can only respond to recent events with glee. (As well, changing his name in order to capitalilze on Tom Clancy novels…well, what can one say?)

I didn’t say that just because he asked repeatedly for something (what guy hasn’t ;)) but when your wife begins to cry and is extremely uncomfortable you don’t say “hey, these tears are turning me off, babe” unless you’re an emotionally manipulative sleaze. Especially when you’re doing it in a roomful of strangers.

True, but I still think this falls somewhat short of “coercion”. In this context, that word has a very charged and significant meaning, and as jarbabyj said: he’s not a rapist.
Also, we have no idea if said those words with the intent of trying to overcome his wife’s resistance to the idea, or if he’s just an incredibly insensitive idiot who’s too self-centered to recognize that it’s not all about him.
Either way he’s still a giant ass, of course. I’m just contesting the exact nature of his ass-hood. (Or if you prefer, I’m splitting hairs.)
Ryan was reportedly advised that the only way he could stop the damage was to go negative on Obama, and keep going negative. Supposedly, that wasn’t the kind of campaign he wanted to run. (So, points for Ryan if that’s true).
But what do you bet we’re going to start seeing the “Obama = Osama” ads rolling out very soon, probably even before the GOP picks a replacement? Hell, they put Osama in ads against Max Cleland, and his name doesn’t sound at all like Osama.
I don’t care how hot she is, you don’t pressure a woman to have sex in public when she doesn’t want to just so you can prove to a bunch of hopeless nerds that you did it.
Dio, you are such a slut. Surely the estimable Ms. Ryan should be given the benefit of a doubt, that she might prefer the company of a man more selective, prudent, and, of course, mature. She might even be willing to go to the trouble of referencing the profile, where such information is commonly available, instead of the blandishments of a brazen hussy, such as yourself.
They sued for access. The judge declared that “the public’s interest” trumped the family’s right to privacy. I don’t get it.

Once he knew they were to be unsealed, why did he not drop out then? He was already trailing Obama badly, this was sure to ruin any small chance of a comeback and forcing this quitting the race was fairly predictable. Now he is toast for any future political office; if he quit “to protect his child’s privacy” before they were revealed then his future for lesser office would still be bright.
How could anyone dis Jeri Ryan like that? I mean a crying Jeri Ryan is still a turn on to me. Beautiful. Intelligent. Did I mention beautiful?
Did he really do it? We really don’t know. These were allegations in a messy divorce in which the wife/mother had already admitted to having had an affair. She is an intelligent woman and an amazingly skillful professional actress. Is it beyond belief that she made up the story based on some private fantasy that he had expressed and pulled off believability in court? Did I mention that she is an amazingly talented actress? There is a presumption of guilt here.
Hey, I hated the man and was pulling for Obama all the way. But this sucks. I do not care what he wanted his wife to do to whom or where. I do not care if he is a lousy husband. I didn’t care when Clinton’s blowjob … uh … came up. I care what their politics are and how they’ll deliver on their campaign promises.
