Chula, I wasn’t trying to justify the woman’s homophobia. I was just saying that we shouldn’t make assumptions about her race or ethnic background based on what country she’s from. How is that “trying to justify homophobia”?
wrt to the OP’s neighbor, I can’t understand why they were allowed to immigrate. As far as I’m concerned if you won’t subscribe to the principles of plurality and tolerance, you shouldn’t be here. Of course there’s always going to be debate about exactly where the limits of this tolerance should be, what the neighbor said borders on madness.

I imagine it’s true that homosexuals have been killed in Somalia. They’ve also been killed in the United States. “We kill people like you in my country” would be a truthful statement coming out of the mouth of nearly anyone in the world. That doesn’t explain why she condones such actions. Unless you believe that all Muslims hold the same beliefs on this subject, and apparently some people here do.

I suppose you’re referring to the incident mentioned about some lesbians being sentenced to death in Somalia. (Actually, this story may be false. See here.) You’re comparing apples and oranges. There is no rule of law in Somalia, so courts rulings are completely arbitrary. Homosexuality isn’t even illegal in Somalia, but it is in the United States. If you’re being violently attacked for being gay, I don’t think you’ll care what the extent of the government’s involvement was.
In any case, we know that there are homophobes in Somalia - what the hell does that fact have to do with the other 1 billion+ Muslims in the world? It’s offensive that posters are trying to impute the woman’s homophobia to Islam.
