In praise of chick flicks

Pretty Woman
Thelma and Louise

Do these count as chick flicks?

My favorite “chick flicks” are the classics made primarily for a female audience. Your choices are fine examples; I’d add The Women & The Philadelphia Story. Lots of screwball comedies fill the bill.

Four-Hanky Movies? Now Voyager & All This & Heaven Too.

Then, there’s Love Affair with Charles Boyer & Irene Dunne. Remade as An Affair To Remember, which influenced that cutesy poo “modern” chick flick. The Shop Around the Corner suffered a similar fate–with the same cutesy poo couple taking the places of James Stewart & Margaret Sullavan.

Among modern chick flicks, I’ve got more tolerance for the Brit comedies than the ones starring Hollywood’s latest “sweetheart.” I’m quite fond of the Austen films–including Clueless.

What about Moonstruck?
