In Reviews Of Creative Works, What Does 'A Revelation' Mean?

I get from the context that “[Work] is a revelation!” means “[Work] is sublime, magnificent, exceeds all expectations, etc.”

Or does it mean something more specific? I’ve seen some performances that have brought down the house, but none that I’d describe as a “revelation.” None revealed anything I didn’t already know (except that Weird Al’s music needs to be seen live to fully appreciate).

I don’t know. It could mean something like “Wow, I had no idea that band was actually any good!”

Or hyperbolically “how did I not know this was a thing, never mind that I needed and wanted it in my life?”
