That right there is a load of vacuous bullshit.
On top of the fact that some point the adult makes the decision to screw a kid. Priests are under a vow of celibacy, they shouldn’t be fucking anybody!

No, the vow isn’t bullshit. It’s one of the ways that gets them access to kids.
One of my friends at school was repeatedly molested by a member of a catholic order and later commited suicide over the matter. That bastard used his trusted position to get access to the boys (over the age of concent here some of them) he was fucking and the order covered it up and tried to move him out of the area before charges caught up to him.
So fuck this: “kids can be seducers crap”. It’s out of line under any circumstances. But hey, if you want to hang on the side of child molesters, go for it.
Fuck this. I’m done with your bullshit.
I wonder if that was what the old guy was trying and failing to say, that some of these cases are a young priest hooking up with an of age guy or almost of age guy.
Why else say that these guys aren’t psychopaths, or that the relationship is like a heterosexual one?
Not everywhere. France’s age of consent is 15, Hawaii’s was 14 IIRC.
He wrote it. He believes it. The appalled backpedaling by his superiors and hastily cobbled together retractions really does nothing to alter the fact that this Priest, this holy man charged with protecting the children of Christ, believes every word he wrote.
The National Catholic Register frantically removed his words. ( After all, if you make the words go away, they kind of were never spoken. Right? )
So, how many Vatican-sanctioned rapist apologists does this make?..Hmm. Unfortunately, entire cities and countries worth.
California ( Where in a particularly chilling turn of events, the powerful Catholic Church lobby is pressing the state legislature to limit the amount of time that can pass before a victim comes forward to report the abuse. Apparently, the Church wants you to Man Up or not man at all. Nice, right?
But really, of course, rants like this are so over-reactionary. It’s not fair to paint with such a broad brush the actions of just one or two…I mean, a few dozen…um… the Vatican is sweeping all of it so far under the carpet that the Jesuits are comfortable blaming the rape victims. As we can see, The Pope is just plain mystified by it all.
What would Jesus do if He found out what was being done and hidden in His name?
Convert.
No you are not, I missed your thread entirely. My apologies. Will send a note to Mods to blend the two.
Cartooniverse
( This is the OP of a thread I started, having missed this one. I’ve asked the Mods to blend or lock mine in deference to this one. )
He started it, with the whole “Let the little children come to me” bit.
I think it’s more likely he’s served as a confessor to priests who have molested children, and it’s entirely possible that in the confessional they were truly agonized. They very likely even believed what they were saying was true. If that’s all you ever saw of abuse–you never saw or personalized the victim–I can see how it would be possible to buy into the abuser’s version of events. But I also think part of the responsibility of being a confessor is learning not to do that, learning to listen but not be seduced yourself by the rationalizations you hear.
Thus one learns the value of a descriptive thread title.

I’m not sure they needed to be seduced. Remember, their programming was consistent and forceful. Rome decreed, they absolved.
It’s more than a little bit like the Nazi soldiers who committed atrocities and got to sleep well at night because their consciences were clean courtesy of Goering.
I would like to think that priests hearing such things in Confession would go to the police. I would like to think that these men took a moral stance and acted in the best interests of the most weak and vulnerable. I would like to think they put the force of right above the force of Rome.
I would be thinking wrong.
I suppose it’s possible that a curious, horny teenager might sometimes seduce an older man . . . but if he or she is 14 or younger, probably not.
That was a plot point in The Opposite of Sex, BTW.
Merged threads, and edited title to more clearly indicate subject.
Thank you !
The guys says this of Jerry.
Really, you can’t fight that logic, can you? Not only did those damn kids are bad for entices him, but then they didn’t report him right away so he was victim to some other sexy kid.
But that’s the heart of the problem. All these horny, lecherous children have managed to convince the rest of the world that THEY are the real victims!
It’s getting out of hand. Just last night, I was walking home past a group of neighborhood kids playing in their front yard, and one of the toddlers shouted at me, “WE’RE HAVING A PICNIC! WANNA PLAY?” Thank goodness I had the fortitude to run inside and lock the door before the inevitable gang rape ensued. I swear, if I see them playing again, I’m bringing my can of mace!
Oh, and sorry for the confusing thread title, it was just the first thing that popped into my head when I read that stupid interview. (Probably would have worked better if the priest actually was Russian…)
No, I just see a coward. The true heroes the the Jerrys of the world. These brave men who life line on the very edge, sacrificing their reputations so that these predators don’t entrap other, less valiant men.
Anyone else wonder if the Vatican, having finally realized that blaming the victims isn’t going over too well, is going to try for the paper towel roll defense?
Is there a way to nominate this thread for “Best Thread Title”?
