If all you were allowed to shop for were in-store brands of food, which one store would you shop at?
Costco
ETA: Do the Kirkland co-branded national brands count?
Difficult question to answer, since most of us are served by regional or local grocery store chains that may or may not share brands.
US/nationally, we can only answer in terms of the national stores like WallyMart, Costco, Sam’s, BJs etc. Is that what you meant?
Easy: Trader Joe’s.
I would have to say yes.
Local/regional chains count, too.
On my current budget? I’d love to say Trader Joe’s but there’s no way I could afford it (and their overall selection can’t compete with a large supermarket).
I primarily shop at Publix and could easily switch to pure generic if I, for whatever reason, had to.
I do most of my shopping at Aldi, which is all house brands anyway. Though there are a few things you just can’t get there…
Publix in-store brands win a special prize for having a pun on every product.
Like Chronos, I also shop at Aldi. Sometimes not getting what you need’s a pain, but generally it works for us.
I think I would have to go with Trader Joe’s, too.
Affiliated Foods started doing that with their Shurfine brands recently.
The best one I’ve seen so far is ‘Shake Your Bon Bons.’ on the sweetened condensed milk.
This, except that my take is that you can only get components for yuppie-foodie meals for two at TJ’s. General grocery shopping is almost impossible unless you’re willing to make a lot of high-end substitutions, and putting together a larger meal than California Cuisine for two will break your wallet.
Never really understood the appeal, even as a foodie/cook/amateur chef. I just don’t need pointlessly exotic foods and half-prepared items.
Wegman’s - Store brand labelling is outstanding.
Target has Archer Farms, and I’ve never had one of those products that wasn’t excellent.
I’m kind of surprised no one said Whole Foods. They’re store branded stuff is very good, but I admit it’s quite pricy.
President’s Choice (found at Zehrs and No Frills.)
…but not their Blue Menu products, those are gross.
Newman confessed to buying store brand wax beans in “Seinfeld”-that was on Kramer’s "Merve Griffin"show revival.
Raley’s/Bel Air
Make that three.
