In the cheers series finale didn't it close or get torn down or something?

If I remember the Cheers finale right the story was the city bought it and was going to redevelop the neighborhood so im lost as to why this article brings it up.

No. Sam was going to sell Cheers and try again with Diane, but realized - with help from Norm - that Cheers was the love of his life.

Sam had already called it off with Diane, came back to the bar and spoke with Norm.

And I have never understood why Sam said “Sorry, we’re closed,” to whoever it was at the door in that last scene. There was a perfect opportunity for it to be either Norm’s never-seen wife, or, the kid from the first scene of the first episode. He was twelve, and Sam told him to come back when he was twenty-one…and the finale was nine years later. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I coulda swore I heard the reboot was going to be set in Chicago.

ETA: I feel like going back to Boston is a mistake. It means viewers will just be focused on getting references and cameos from Cheers, and it’ll be harder to make it its own show, like the original Frasier was. Frasier worked because it stood on its own, and you rarely even thought about the Cheers gang while watching it.

Actually I hope they don’t have any references to Cheers or cameos from cast members. The show should stand on its own. (I expect it might reference Frasier though; perhaps something about where Niles and Daphne are today, and about how Martin eventually passed away.)

And that’s why I think it’s dumb to go back to Boston. Now Cheers references are just going to be expected, or teased or whatever.

They had a whole country, and they have him go back to Boston? But he won’t see anyone he hung out when he lived there before? I’m already skeptical it’s going to work.

I believe Lilith is going to be in it, at least briefly.

What a sad excuse of an article. Paid by the word, with virtually nothing to say.

The final episode of Frasier has him going to Chicago, maybe that had something to do with it.

A stupid, shitty, clickbait article posted at screenrant.com? No way, no how, that’s impossible.

You remember wrongly. Perhaps you are conflating an episode of Frasier where Martin’s bar gets closed and redeveloped, by a group that Frasier and Niles invested in.

Cheers ended with Norm getting a job, Cliff getting a promotion, Woody’s side careers as an actor and in local politics beginning to take off, and Rebecca marrying an ordinary decent guy. The bar closes for the night, but will reopen tomorrow.

One of the major characters is David Crane, Frasier’s nephew, son of Niles and Daphne.

Roz Doyle will be a recurring character.

Toward the end of the series, there was an episode where Rebecca accidentally burned down the bar, but it was soon back in operation.

Frasier went to Chicago because he wanted to be with Laura Linney. I wonder if she’ll be in the reboot.

No, not as a regular or recurring character at least.

Closer to the end of the series, Gary’s Olde Towne Tavern goes down and doesn’t get back up.

It was a reference to the fact that the show was now “closed.”
IIRC, the person at the door was an agent for the show’s creators.

As for “the bar being torn down,” there was an episode earlier in the season where the owner of Sam’s rival bar, Gary’s Old Town Tavern, is tricked by Harry the con man into tearing down his own bar.

Tip O’Neill appeared in a season 1 episode. I recall a rumor (almost certainly false) that the shadowy figure at the door was Ted Kennedy.

I’m sorry, I was going to post something profound when I just learned that Jane (Daphne Moon) Leeves is 62 years old.

I’m gonna need a minute.

mmm

I believe she got started as a dancer on Benny Hill’s show, so she’s been in television since the '80s at least. YouTube has clips of her turning Benny on while stripping half-naked.
