My wife has one, maybe two pairs she got during that time period. I’m pretty sure we still have them in a box somewhere from 1-2 moves back. I played with them a few times and I guess it was kinda relaxing in a mindless distraction sort of way, but it required just enough effort that playing with them for more than a few minutes got tedious. Perhaps if I was more manually adept it would be otherwise.
She bought them in the 90s (when we were both in college) at an Asian goods/import shop and enjoyed them quite a bit during the time (she is much more adept than I).
Never had the jingling balls in the 90’s but did have a pair of plastic balls tied together with string in the 70’s called ‘clackers’
Sure it would. Melt a block of wax. Pour it around the ball in a container. Cut.
Very cool!
I’m glad someone else did the sacrifice. I would have been bummed had I ruined a pair of jingle balls and seen that simple mechanism.
I stll have a pair of those that are possibly older than I am (belonged to my mother or grandmother).
I never owned a pair. But the few that I came across and rolled in my hand, did have a very satisfying feel and sound. I did not think I would ever use them enough to bother getting them. But if I ever come across another set, I will surely give them a twirl. They are nice. But if I find myself with spare time, I do not fill it with such things/actions. Maybe one of my bad habits instead or actually doing something that needs doing. But I did like them.
Pier One tempted me many times, but I never actually bought any. (But I did have a papasan.)
