Der Trihs does not really do pause, AFAICT. The word “evil” in a post by him is just a useful marker signaling that you can stop reading without missing anything informative or important. There is no point expecting his castigation reflex ever to be interrupted by thoughtfulness or nuance.
Thank you President Obama and Congressional Democrats for not backing down! Too many times in recent years have Democrats shown a sickening spinelessness. Not this time, and apparently not this guy- Obama.
As when he was poking fun of Donald Trump, while at the same time bin laden was being taken out, try to bluff Obama at your own risk.
 I haven’t so much as punched anyone since high school; yet because I argue on message boards I must be a genocidal lunatic just waiting for my chance. I see no reason to take such blatantly silly accusations seriously.
EDIT: And people accusing me of being insulting and then calling me a wannabee mass murderer are being rather hypocritical
It would be refreshing to see you concede that these “standard accusations” aren’t arising in a vacuum, whether or not they are ultimately justified.
There’s also his absolute hatred of the military and police. How would he round up detainees when he’s disbanded the rounding-up authorities?
Of course it does. Hundred of thousands of citizens went without a paycheck, and they’ll remember who caused that to happen in the next election. The GOP’s approval rating have tanked. If that was their goal, well… congratulations on that.
Gesundheit!
Did she have red hair?
Well aren’t you quite the naive one. I’m sure no one ever found a way to abuse an EBT card to buy something that wasn’t intended with it.
I’m seeing this more as “narrowly-averted catastrophe” than “win for our side” (except that our side was anti-catastrophe), so any beers or celebration will be more about relief than gloating.
I’ll save my gloating for November 2014 on the off-chance the American electorate for once doesn’t display the memory capacity of a goldfish.
This is where people skills come in handy.
That’s the mildest possible way to put that.
And guns *can *be used to rob banks, even though that’s not their intended purpose. What’s your point?
Your view of the world is starkly black and white. We are good; they are evil. They hate us; therefore we hate them. There is no in-between and no possibility for empathy or understanding.
Your failure to see those who disagree with you as fellow human beings is dangerous and is the sort of thing that leads to totalitarianism and genocide, historically speaking. Whether you see it or not.
Liberal atheist Kucinich voter here, FTR.
Can it be both? I’m not going to call the actual outcome a win, per se, but it’s awfully nice to see the Democratic Party growing a backbone at the national level. The Republican tactic is to accuse them of refusing to compromise regardless of whether or not they actually do and they finally seem to have figured that out.
I’m still massively pissed off about the fact that Obamacare was watered down (no public option!) in order to make it palatable to Republicans… who then turned around and not only refused to vote for it, but shut the entire fucking government down in order to try to stop it. Way to go, Obama. He should have just kept the public option in and we would have had the same result, except WITH BETTER HEALTH CARE.
They needed to get moderate Democrats on board and needed to avoid a filibuster by Republicans.
I suppose that is the reasonable and non-ragey way to look at it. (Hmph.)
I’m not quite ready to see Der Trihs as a mass-murdering dictator but I’m already on the record multiple times with the opinion that he often takes a rather *extreme * and not entirely rational view on matters under discussion, particularly where religion and/or politics are involved.
Instead of claiming he’s Pol Pot, I’d settle for a standard disclaimer that even where I’m on the same side of an argument as Der Trihs (which is often) his posts should in no way be seen as representative of my position or of the “side” in general, and that any views expressed therein should not be referred to as such by those holding the opposing position.*
*Actually, can I get one of those for NotFooled as well? Thanks.
I don’t see how there’s any reason for a happy gloating thread. The democrats are making a big show about how they’ve given up nothing, but here’s the thing - they gave up the budget. They canonized the Sequester cuts. That’s not “nothing”. The republicans, for all intents and purposes, won. They used the unilateral threat of extreme harm to the world economy and as a result forced an instantaneous compromise from the democrats. Hell, before Cruz floated the fucking ridiculous idea to try to stop Obamacare, this was considered a “win” in their books. And that’s what this was: the republicans used hostage tactics and won. The only way this could possibly hurt them is if they lose public influence, and the likelihood of that happening with our ridiculous “centrist” media is incredibly unlikely.
It still sucks, and it’s true they were hoping at one point to get support from moderates like Snowe. But I think they would have had to give up the same stuff anyway.
For now. The law calls for a budget committee that could change that - which was something the Democrats have wanted for months and that Republicans have been avoiding.
