In your face, Westboro BC!

I like it.

Looks like hell froze over for the Phelps.

A thought just occurred to me, Fred’s gettin up there in years and is gettin closer to the inevitable. That means a funeral…

Lord, that house is so pretty! I’d love it even if it was just a style choice.

Several folks have him in the DeathPool. He was born in 1929, so he’s worth a few points. But the amount wouldn’t matter, it would be getting something out of him when he kicks off.

Snomosexuals!

I love it!

I was thinking in terms of a group effort at the funeral to give him a proper send off.

Looks like the snow has melted and they have guests.

I wonder if WBC has bricked up the windows on that side of the compound yet.

That’s what the rack of speakers blasting It’s Raining Men continuously is for.

why go to dog park? let your dog crap on phelps yard

as for pool, oooo I wonder if someone could rig a launcher of some type in a pick up truck and launch interesting things into that pool from the street.

to bad it didn’t rain blood or dead skunks or something on JUST the westboro compound (hmmm wonder what it cost to rent a glider and get a plane to give it a start up tow in the right direction…)

I hope the turn it into a Fabulous bed and breakfast, I would sooo stop there.

Are there other Baptist churches in the area? What do they think of the Westboro clan?

There’s a ton of Baptist churches here in Topeka, and they are embarassed that Phred calls his church Baptist.

The WBC used to identify with a group called the Primitive Baptists, don’t know if they still do. As I understand it, most Baptist denominations are rather congregationalist. By that I mean they have larger groups and formal denominations, but individual congregations are not so much under the thumb, or beholden to. their national group, as, say, Roman Catholics would be.

One New Year’s Eve I saw the WBC picketing First Southern Baptist!

But it was on a main street, with lots of traffic that evening. The WBC are equal opportunity picketers here in Topeka, but most of their work is done on main streets, the better to be seen. Very seldom do you see them at small neighborhood congregations. Although I did hear once they got run out of the Oakland neighborhood when they picketed Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church.

My own church, Grace Episcopal Cathedral, is on a street lined with a number of churches, with various service times. Within a one mile stretch they can hit Catholics, Episcopalians, Lutherans(ELCA and LC_MS), another Catholic church one block over, and one non-denominational. They’ll picket one and move to the next, no muss, no fuss.

And they hit us this morning! Nine adults and two kids on the other side of 8th street. Some of our folks were parked on that side, and when they got out of their cars the WBC was yelling at them, but I couldn’t hear what they yelled.

I poked around a little and didn’t see it, but do you know if there’s a publicized record of their correspondence anywhere? I find stories like this (“sworn enemies,” so to speak, coming to reconcile through dialogue) really intriguing.

While counter-protests are are a standard response to WBC’s nonsense, sometimes you have to recognize an outstanding effort.
