Income taxes?

How much do you have to make yearly to have a post-tax income of 36,000$?

That is an impossible question to answer directly because of the many differnet tax circumstances that individuals have. Some states have state income taxes for example and some don’t. However a reasonable rule of thumb is that someone like that may pay about 1/3 of income in taxes and other paycheck withholdings.

That would mean the income is in about the low 50K range.

I agree it’s impossible. However, here’s one scenario.

Single taxpayer, no dependents, lives in Virginia. Takes standard deduction. With a gross pay of, $48,216.92, net income after federal and state taxes is $36,000, considering FICA at 6.2% and Medicare at 1.45%.

Other scenarios available upon request.
