Incompetent media

Getting home (late) from work on Tuesday night, I turned the television to one of the 24 hour news channels (CTV in this case) and noticed a headline running across the “ticker” area at the bottom of the screen. It said that there had been a bombing of a Palestinian school and that “Jewish Extremists” (their words) were suspected of having been behind the bombing.

On Wednesday, I combed through all three newspapers delivered to the office where I work, looking for more information on this story, but found nothing – I assumed that the papers had already gone to press before the story broke and that some coverage would be there on Thursday.

Today (Thursday) I combed through the papers again and found nothing. Finally I went online and checked out Haaretz (an Israeli paper) and found the following story:

Story about bombing

What the hell is wrong with the Canadian media? Are they all so committed to being apologists for Israeli actions in the occupied territories that they decide that something like this is not “newsworthy”?

It pisses me off, big time.

Of course covering such a story would point out that the Palestinians living under Israeli occupation don’t just have to be worried about the Israeli armed forces, but also vigilante action by armed Settlers and “Jewish extremists” - but then I guess that would just complicate the easily digestible pap that the media tries to pass on as “objective” coverage of the Middle East.

It still pisses me off.
