Incredibly Cheesy Songs

What, we’ve gotten this far without mentioning the wonder that is “Macarther’s Park” as “sung” by Richard Harris

You know, the Mp3 of “Don’t Give Up…” is listed as David Soul, but for some reason I looked at that and said - “no way, that’s gotta be wrong. Probably David Gates - sounds like him, anyway.”

That’s what I get for second guessing myself.

Thanks for the compliment kevja. Shall we now go look in our '80s folder (The Air Supply one was misfiled apparently):

'65 Love Affair Paul Davis (he of I Go Crazy fame)
All Out of Love Air Supply
Adult Education Hall and Oates
Desert Moon Dennis DeYoung
Goodbye Night Ranger
Never Heart
Hello Lionel Richie
Lost in Love the aforementioned Air Supply, who also sang
Making Love Out of Nothing at All
Never Surrender Corey Hart
Silent Running* Mike and the Mechanics

*Speaking of Silent Running, does anyone remember the video? My wife thinks I’m crazy, but I SWEAR it has something to do with a 10 year-old boy who comes to the slow realization that his father is some sort of space alien. I will admit that the cheese factor lies not totally with the song, but with the video.

I went to my old record collection and got out a copy of Never Been to Me, and I listened to it twice in a row!

I have no shame.

I’m now trying to find Telephone Line.

For some reason, I appreciate 70s-early 80s cheese more than any that appeared later. Yeah, glam bands are cheesy but they don’t hold a candle to Eric Carmen, Olivia Newton John, or Rupert Holmes. Imho, anyway.

I’m also a big fan of the Philadelphia Sound and like sounding soul music, which one or two of you might consider slightly cheesy. Tell me what you think:

Back Stabbers The O’Jays
Love Rollercoaster The Ohio Players
She Used to be My Girl The O’jays
Rubberband Man The Spinners
Everybody Plays the Fool The Main Ingredient
Love on a Two Way Street The Moments
I’m Stone in Love with You The Stylistics
When Will I See You Again The Three Degrees
If You Don’t Know Me by NowHarold Melvin & The Blue Notes
Midnight Train to Georgia Gladys Night and the Pips
I’ll Be Good to You The Brothers Johnson

Billy Don’t Be a Hero by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods is the first song that comes to my mind.

What frightens me is that not only am I well familiar with most of these songs, but that I like many of them…

… and I was born in 1972.

Good Morning Starshine is a truly horrible song.

Just read the lyrics and have this dreadful tune in your head.

Who sang:

Sky Pilot?

Key Largo by Bernie Higgins…

Eric Burden and the Animals

And JohnT, there’s nothing cheesy about Philly Soul.

Vintage cheese in here, no doubt.

The Night Chicago Died by (I think) Paper Lace occurred to me immediately. Atlantis by Donovan is in a class by itself, though.

IMHO, anyhow.

“We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun…”

I didn’t think so, but I’m allowing for the (potentially poor) taste of others.

Hey, don’t feel bad. The only reason I knew it was David Soul is because…well…

… I own a copy of that album. Please, don’t tell anyone.

You own the album? And admitted it publicly?

You are a brave person.

Yes. Yes, I do own the album. And let me just say that Soul’s rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Bird on a Wire is pretty darned groovy. So there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Jordy - C’est dur dur d’être bébé

Come on, you remember that poppy little song with little child singing. Oééééé beebee, iä Shub-Niggurath!

Morris Albert. Apparently he sang “I’ve” where “I’d” or “I’ll” would have been more appropriate.
