India Overturns Law Banning Women Bartenders

Story here.

The law was on the books for 93 years.

Progress! Now if they can can discuss those pesky rape laws…

Which are the rape laws you are referrring to ? any cite ??

Not so much the laws of India specifically, but the attitudes of devout Muslims towards rape and yes, in some places, the laws.

Cite. Cite. Cite (though pardoned by the king, and though her attackers were punished as well, she was initially punished by the courts for “illegally mingling.”) I could probably dig up more (and better, if I bothered to hone my Google-fu) cites. Again, it’s mostly the attitudes of many towards females in the Muslim religion that often result in things like this, which I think need to be made more fair towards women – and enforced. Nothing against the middle-east, understand, just an unfortunately stubborn attitude that some cling to in the treatment of women in Muslim states.

Mindfield, you know India is not a predominantly Muslim country, right?

True, and I suppose this thread was probably not the best place to post that. I was just being a bit snarky.

How about that pesky Richard Gere situation…

PA,

In india PDA is still a taboo in most places, and there are attention mongers who sensationalise these kind of trivia , by filing a suit in a court ,for their 15 minutes of fame…

There was a huge response in media, to courts admitting this kind of frivolous suits, when there are huge backlog of civil and criminal cases.
I find nothing wrong with that particular incident…It was done to support charity .Gere is a regular in India, and contributes to Buddhist causes, and charity events.
