Just accepted a new job as an administrative law judge. This is the gig I’ve been working towards for a couple of years now. Heading on a 25th anniversary trip to Alaska in 30 minutes. Return 8/14 and start work 8/30. Life is REAL good!

Congratulations, Your Honor! Does Indiana have its ALJs handle cases from a variety of state agencies, so that you’re not just mucking with the same law day in and day out? I know that some states give ALJs a grab-bag (Georgia does, for example), while federal ALJs are always attached to one particular agency. The latter option has always struck me as a heck of a boring gig, but YMMV.
Wow - cool! So you are in Illinois now and moving? Sorry if I have that wrong…
So, where in Indiana and where are you coming from? There are several of us Hoosier Dopers here who will be glad to give you our advise (and it will be worth exactly what you pay for it).

I’ve been working for Social Security in Chicago for 23+ years. I’ll still be with SSA as an ALJ - so I’ll be one of theose jerks who denies each and every case. Going to Valparaiso. Not a huge move, - only 70 miles or so, but enough to kick in their relocation assistance.
Big thing is my wife and I are psyched to get away from Chicago and try a little slower pace for a while.

You are closer to the area then I am so guess I can’t give you any suggestions. You will have more Bears fans than Colts fans. And I’m sure you know you will be in the middle of the path of “lake effect” snow. Everyone I know though from Valpo loved it.
