I hope, Dogface, that you’ll be amused rather than offended by something I had in the works for what I fully expected over in GQ, but somehow the Teeming Millions collectively restrained themselves.
There was a thread very recently about “Unorthodox Launch Vehicles” that required that people come up with a means of placing a fragile payload into a Lunar-touchdown orbit from Earth. Explosives on board were explicitly ruled out; means of providing the impetus either at launch or by external devices not part of the vehicle were expected.
Naturally, with your classic line about Nikola Tesla’s invention that has become a catchphrase, I expected somebody to throw that in as a possibility. But, in a miracle of restraint, nobody did.
Expecting someone to, however, I had the perfect comeback post – that considering the phrase’s source here on this board, the 1920s style death ray would emphatically not qualify as an unOrthodox launch vehicle!
