According to genealogical research my sister has been doing–well, she says that our father’s side of the family is related to Huey Long!! :o :o :o :o
Any other Dopers with black sheep in the family? And willing to admit it in this forum?
Hey, I won’t tell anyone…
I’m related to Adam

If you go back about 200 years, you’ll see I’m related to Daniel Boone.
Whee.
I’m related to General Winfield Scott, who served in the Mexican-American War (I think) and definitely in the Civil War, although he was past his prime as a military man by then.
Not exactly infamous, but, hey, how many Civil War generals are you related to?
This doesn’t qualify for infamous, but Ray Bolger, the scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, is my grandmother’s cousin, by marriage, I think. Something like that.
Makes sense though…
If I only had a brain!
Louis “Lepke” Buchalter – the guiding force behind Murder Incorporated (Tony Curtis played him in a his biography) – is related to my mother; she has several cousins named Buchalter.
My aunt once claimed that her family was related to Admiral Oguri, one of the signers of the Japanese surrender document. However, I doubt that’s true.
One of my ancestors was a failed political assassin.
He went after an english king and failed.
Everyone else in the family tree were good ol’ dutch teachers, preachers, and pig famers.
My first cousin once removed is a moderately famous serial killer.
Dr. J
There is the rumor in my family that we are related to George Burns. His real last name was Birnbaum, which is my grandmother’s maiden name. However, despite digging up his birth certificate and other evidence of his life, I have not yet been able to prove the link…

Wait. Dougie, you’re embarrassed by Huey Long? Why?!? Huey RULES, man. Lemmee just quote Randy Newman…{ahem}…
Everybody gather round
Loosen up your suspenders
Hunker down on the ground

You are too
But don’t I take good care of you?
Who built the highway to Baton Rouge?
Who put up the hospital, and built your schools?
Who looks after shitkickers like you?
The Kingfish do
Who took on the Standard Oil men
And whipped their ass
Just like he’d promised he’d do?
Ain’t no Standard Oil men gonna run this state
Gonna be run by little folks like me and you
It’s the Kingfish
the Kingfish
Friend of the working man
Kingfish, Kingfish
The Kingfish gonna save this land
Hey Ruffian you are related to my Uncle.
My 4th great-grandfather on my mother’s side was Edgar Allen Poe. My 4th great-grandfather on my father’s side was a Cherokee Indian Chief. Dunno about infamous, but I imagine there were plenty of white men who thought the Chief was, and many say that about E.A. Poe as well.
Demo, my dear. How can you work in Nuclear Medicine without a brain?!?! I thought so! Besides, you did choose psycat, didn’t you? Shows intelligence there, to be sure.
zev, I am also related to Adam. How about that! Eve too!
Yep, I am a Hatfield. Ya’ know the Hatfields and McCoys.
My step-father is related to Miles Standish.
On my grandmothers side Jackie Mason, and still waiting to find out about Matt Leblanc.
On a lighter note according to the history channel the Hatfields were right! Gotta send away for that tape someday.
Uncle Beer, take it easy on me. I vaguely remember a comment about the Hatfields and McCoys from another thread, just caint member which one.
ELizabeth Cady Stanton is somehow related to me, though I don’t know how… we just share the name Cady and its not THAT common a name so there must be some link!
I also discovered a couple of years ago that I am related to William Shakespeare…by marriage anyways… his daughter’s second husband is an ancestor of mine on my mothers side…the same family line associates me with Barnard College in England as well, though i dont know if any of this has much infamy to it…
oh well…its family…!
Davy Crockett was my great great great great uncle. Or something like that.
And there was that serial killer in britain recently with my last name, though I don’t think there’s any relation.
I have an ancestor on my mom’s side who was Lord Blackstone, he and his arisocratic friends became highwaymen for a lark, and when they got caught they hanged 'em.
Actually, in my mom’s family he was more infamous for being an English Lord, than for being a highway pirate. They felt that his Scottish mother married beneath her. She was the link to my mom. The english were (understatement) NOT popular in Scotland at that time. Not sure how they feel about the matter now.
Scotti
Kricket-
The English and the Scots had alot in common with the Hatfields and McCoys-we’re probably both lucky that enough of them survived to have descendants.
BTW, I heard about your little one, and all the trials you are going through. I am sending a prayer your way. Hope I don’t presume.
Scotti
According to my mother’s side of the family : Elvis
According to my father’s side of the family : Henry VII
Hey, they were both kings, so either way, I’m royalty…
Scotti, any possitive thoughts that you can send out is appreciated.
Hard to believe that the Hatfields were land owners from France, and a good thing that they didn’t do away with more than they did.
In the end we are all related somehow because of a forbidden marriage. Ya’ know you have to have a romance in with the sorrow and hate.
Related to Rose Kennedy on my mother’s side.
Related to Robert E. Lee on my father’s side, in some obscure way.
