Information content inversely proportional to officiality of source - term?

I’ve noticed that when seeking out information on the internet that in general, the less official the website relative to the topic, the more likely it will contain the information I am looking for. This is especially true when seeking information on business or commercial related matters. For example:

Today I was trying for figure out how “Reference Manager” imports data into its database from a certain source. The official help was useless. I ended up finding concise direction on a random site at the University of Florida.

In cynicism, has a term for the phenomenom I’ve described been coined?

This may not be precisely what you are looking for, but a while ago there was a considerable amount of research on what was called levels of “cognitive complexity.” A psychologist named Phillip Tetlock did analyses of official reports, speeches, etc. and found that, in times of political crisis, such as elections, national emergencies and so forth, rhetoric became much more simple–everything was couched in black-and-white terms, rather than looking at complex arguments on both sides of a question.
