Information on FBI Bookmarker

Not sure what kind of luck we’ll have here, but I’ve always been impressed with the knowledge base here on the Dope. My girlfriend ordered a textbook on leadership online and the book arrived with this inside:

Sorry for the picture quality. The bookmark is engraved up top with “FBI - CHICAGO” and on the bottom with the name “ASAC J. WEIS.” I’m certain this item really came from the FBI, but does anyone have any other info or resources that could further determine the provenance of this bookmark?

I think it belonged to this guy.

That could be! I’ve actually heard of Jody Weis. For some reason, we both assumed “ASAC” was a first name (however uncommon) rather than a title.

Considering his controversial time in Chicago as Emergency Officer and Police Chief it would be interesting to know on which page he quit reading the leadership book.

Any clues as to when he had the book?

It seems like it might be fun to read up on all the drama that happened in Chicago with Daley, Rahm, the no confidence vote, knowing he held your book in his hands.

My girlfriend says that she found the bookmark on page 35, though it held a clump of pages together and might have been marking the page on the bookmark’s opposing side. She received the book from SuperFlyBooks, based in Pheonix, so it’s difficult to determine when Weis was in possession of the book except that it was obviously after June of 2002.

The book in question is Enlightened Leadership, by the way.

Thanks for all your help so far, Mongo Ponton! It’s very cool that this bookmark (and the book itself) was once owned by someone relatively famous - or infamous, as the case may be.

Does anyone happen to know how common these sorts of bookmarks are, and the circumstances surrounding being given an engraved one?
