80someting% through the damn game, and I’ve (repeated) failed to kill the 30 something regenerating baddies that I apparently have to kill to make it past the spinning platform ascending the tower.
My left thumb is throbbing, and I swear I’m this close to smashing the buggy GameCube controller into the TV screen.
I have the sequel waiting for me on my Xbox, and I seriously hope the controls are superior.
I just want to be done already!!!
Yeah, that was tricky. Are you able to pull off the super-duper move, the one the game shows you using in the sand-vision beforehand? I actually went back to a previous save point and re-did the portion just before the tower, just so I could not grab a particular sand cloud (that last sand cloud gave me an extra power tank and screwed my ability to pull off the super move). It’s that useful on this level.
'Course, I was playing on the XBox and don’t recall any problems with the controls. Is the Gamecube controller actually buggy? That kinda sucks.
I played various things on my xbox for a couple of years before I first played my girlfriend’s gamecube. The gamecube controler just feels cheap and clunky in my hands comparatively, and doesn’t seem as responsive, but I thought I had adapted. The harder the game gets, the more it is bugging me.
I got lazy with carrying multiple save points back around 50%, so the option of repeating the vision or avoiding that last sand cloud is somewhat unattractive.
Thanks for the tip though. If I get truly desperate, I’ll try anything.
Ahh… I remember that section. I was playing on the PS2, though. That really was a horrible part. I just had to fight through it umpteen million times before I managed to not kill myself or the girl. In case you’re wondering, the next one, Warrior Within, is in my opinion, not nearly as good as the first one, although it is much, much longer.
I only played part of the third one one (Two Thrones or something?) but it’s like all the best parts of the first one combined with the action of the second one.
You know, that sort of thing is the reason I stopped playing SoT. Loved the platforming to death, loved the plot and writing…but I grew to hate the fighting after a while. Just boring as hell and frustrating for me.
I remember that part being a pain. I think it took me a couple of days to get through as well. The best I can say is stun the things then take a drink of water. I’m pretty sure that’s what I did. I would even let them hit me while drinking if it allowed me to get more water. The good thing is that that’s the hardest part of the game. Once you get through that you’re home free.
Well you don’t really need to repeat the vision; I was just using it as a reference. The vision just shows the Prince using the super-speed attack where you get to kill every bad guy on the screen.
Other suggestions I can think of, aside from Edward’s tip:
[ul]
[li]If you can’t use the super attack, then use your other powers aggressively: use the freeze attack when you get surrounded, and rewind, rewind, rewind whenever a bad guy gets a hit in.[/li][li]Use the wall rebound attack a lot; it knocks down almost everything and doesn’t expose you to counter-attack like the aerial attacks do.[/li][li]Keep moving. Nothing’s worse than three baddies standing over you as you try to get back up off the floor.[/li][li]Watch for baddies who’ve gotten stunned by Farah’s attacks, then beat them around the head while they can’t block.[/li][/ul]
And good luck. If I can do it, anyone can.

This is definitely a good idea. It’s better to rewind when you’ve got more health than when it’s almost out. When there’s a hit that takes a good chunk out of you, rewind as far as you can with a sand tank.
I thought that that was really hard the first time I played, but the last time I played I got through it with no problem.
I don’t think you’d like the second one. The combat is improved, but it’s also more emphasized. Plus it’s geared toward the hot topic crowd. It’s still a fun game with some great platforming sections, but if you haven’t opened it yet you might consider returning it and just renting it.
The third one is definitely worth playing. It does have a lot of combat, but it’s still better. You should probably play it on the easy difficulty level. There’s one boss (well, two bosses in the same encounter) that’s extremely frustrating. I played on medium and it took me many tries (and that was after I looked online to see how). My brother played it on easy and it took him lots of tries as well. Other than that, the hardest part of the game is a platforming section near the end where you have to move quickly through a lot of traps before your health runs out. The last boss isn’t too hard, and is lots of fun.
