Oddly enough, I just rewatched Princess Bride last night.
Though Cary Elwes is HOTT, I prefer dark haired men. I like the character too and the line “my name is Inigo Montoya, you kill my father. Prepare to die.” makes me cry.

Despite everything, on reflection, I think Westley is actually cooler. Which is bizarre to me. Inigo, however, may be hotter.

The Princess Bride is a story about Inigo and his revenge. Similarly, the main character in Forrest Gump is Lieutenant Dan.

Inigo is cool, no doubt about it. However, Westley BEAT Inigo, and refused to kill him out of deep respect. Westley spent some time developing a resistance to a deadly poison, on the off chance that he’d need that resistance some day. And Westley does NOT give up.
Inigo has the potential to be nearly as cool as Westley, especially since he’s going into the pirate business, but let’s face it, alcoholics just generally aren’t as cool as people who don’t crawl into a bottle. They can be tragic figures, yes, but tragic is not the same as cool.
I read that Mandy had recently lost his real life father shortly before the film was made, and it was cathartic for him to play that scene where he wanted his father back.
I prefer Mandy to Cary as an actor. But Westley is smart, strong, brave, and extremely inventive. Inigo is strong and brave, but I don’t think that he’s exceptionally bright.

Westley’s coolness suffers from having to spend a good portion of the movie as an inert lump.
