I’ve now been awake 22 hours.
Get a (fucked up )life!
I had insomnia problems last spring (and they’ve begun to resurface again). I tried Ambien. That thing worked like a charm the first night–I was asleep within 20 minutes. But since it’s so habit-forming, they told me to take it every other night. On the nights I took it, I slept so soundly, the best sleep I’ve ever had. On the nights I didn’t take it, my insomnia was even worse. Anyway, my insomnia went away after about 2 months.
Good luck.
Have you been to the doctor about this? You might have some kind of chemical imbalance making things worse, though IANAD. Go get checked out, you might find there are ways to help you, though you might end up needing to go to a “sleep clinic” too. Good luck.
Huh-uh. Not appropriate for this forum, bob fortuna. Please don’t do this again.

SKIPMAGIC, was it the “F” that did it?
This book helped me enormously.
Sorry for any trouble, as I was making fun of my own situation.
That, with the combination of the rebuke and the rolley-eyes.
Eh, we all have our posts that don’t go so well; just please try to be less abrasive the next time.
Affimative.
I am on Ambien every night. Have been for about two years now. I ussed to be on 25mg per night, but that was during a very particular bad stretch (I have depression issues, and was…well, I was in the house of corrections at the time for a DUI conviction and couldn’t sleep and then couldn’t function at work from lack of sleep). If I don’t take it, I have trouble getting to sleep, but even if I do take it, it doesn’t keep me asleep all night.
From whay my docs have told me, Ambien is more designed to help you fall asleep rather than keep you asleep for an entire evening. As for habit forming - well, just about anything can be, but if you’re reallin ghaving trouble with insomnia to where it affects your life to such a degree, Ambien should be the least of your worries. When I stopped taking it for a month (when it interacted with another med I had to take temporarily), I had no withdrawls or anything even remotely uncomfortable.
You may want to discuss with your doctor again, or ask about Trazodone. It’s used to treat depression - at times. More recently, though, it’s been recognized for it’s extremem benefits toward helping delvelop regular sleeping patterns.
Also - trick I was taught. If you’re lying in bed and can’t sleep - get up. Go somewhere else. This is so you don’t beging ot subconsciously identify the bed as the place where you cannot sleep. Might sound weak, but there’s a rationale there.
Respectfully,
Inky
I’ve been having an insomnia problem the last several days. I got onto a schedule where I stay up through the night; start to feel tired at around 1pm, sleep for an hour or two, wake up, then sleep from 7 to 9 or so. repeat.
A couple of days I tried staying up all night and through the next day, but this failed.
Tomorrow’s plan is massive amounts of coffee through the morning and the gym in the afternoon. Passing out from exhaustion and a crash after the caffeine in the evening should work.
This happens for a week or so each year… Thankfully I figured out roughly how to counter it after a few days if I can’t just make myself go to sleep.
This has been the first bout of insomnia in 2 years. I think it was the wine I tried - Casillero del Diablo 2003. It’s not a wine I’ve had before. I eventually got about 3 hours sleep - 2 lots of about 90 mins - and I feel like sh*t.
