Installing Sirius In-Dash in Car

My wife is looking to replace her (stolen) Sirius Stiletto with an in-dash system, avoiding the tangle of wires she previously had. Trying to look into it, I’m a little over my head and not quite understanding it.

My understanding is that she would need an in-dash receiver that is Sirius compatible and then a separate Sirius tuner? Like this? She’s also seen a couple receivers on Amazon that say “Sirius ready” but have comments saying they’re actually only XM ready and won’t work with Sirius at all.

Does anyone have experience with this who can give some advice or direction? She doesn’t want a separate clip on unit; she wants it all through her car radio.

Edit: Just to allay concerns, I wouldn’t be doing the install myself. We know someone who can do that but I want to purchase the correct components.

Let’s start with the important question…what’s the make/model/year of the car and does it have the factory radio in it right now?

Toyota 2009 Matrix with stock radio.

Have you looked at Crutchfield’s website? They seem to do a good job of identifying what you need to get a car stereo installed in your car.

If you are handy or a “tinkerer” replacing a car stereo is relatively simple. Generally, removal of the trim or dash panel is the trickiest part, as you do not want to scratch anything… my take has always been “people can do this, and I am a person” so I find the instructions, find and read message board posts containing step-by-step directions with photos, and then just do it…

no experience with Toyotas, but have taken apart my Hondas (Odyssey and CRV) for multiple radio, speaker, and Sirius-related projects.

I found this video on YouTube… looks pretty easy, and you can ignore the removal of the lower trim around the gear selector know…

Cool. Thanks for the info so far; I’ll have to check that video out when I’m home from work.
