Instant drunkeness for a few seconds...for real

Who thinks this stuff up?

Need to cop a buzz but don’t have time for a drink? No worries! Science has made your life easier in this respect too!

Apparently this is real and about to be sold in Europe for $26/tube (no plans for America yet).

Personally I do not see the point at all. Bet it would be a big hit for kids though.

Cocaine operates the same way and it’s doing alright for itself.

I always thought it would be nice to able to turn on or off the ‘drunk’ feeling at will. I’m not sure this is what I had in mind.

As one commenter on the article I saw about the product said (paraphrased): “Meh. Just spin around in your office chair a few times for the same effect.”

I’d prefer a momentary sobriety spray, frankly.

This doesn’t make sense to me. How would it work? Does it actually get you “drunk,” as in alcohol intoxication, or is it some other kind of intoxication/high? I just can’t see how 0.075 mL of alcohol, no matter how its administered, would get you drunk, but perhaps some people with more knowledge of how the human body works could chime in.

For serious. I don’t even care for shots, my philosophy being “Drunk: I’ll get there, no rush.” Sober, on the other hand, I would occasionally like in a hurry.

Originally the effects of this spray lasted for hours, but once they raised to price to TWENTY-SIX DOLLARS, customers sobered up almost immediately.

So according to the Gizmodo article the creator claims that “…thanks to the way the specially designed spray mechanism pulverizes the liquid into your mouth, the effect is full and instantaneous.” So it’s basically the same as putting alcohol into a perfume atomizer. I don’t care how fine of an alcohol mist you create, if it’s supposed to work by being absorbed through your oral mucosa (which is what I gather from these articles and the design of the device), you’re better off just holding a shot of alcohol in your mouth.

Since I’ve never noticed getting “instantly drunk” from holding alcohol in my mouth for a few moments (even 190 proof Everclear), or from using alcohol-containing breath sprays, I’m going to assume this is BS.

Okay, I’ll concede it’s possible to get intoxicated faster by getting the alcohol into your system quicker. But how does that shorten the duration of the intoxication? Once the alcohol’s in your body, it’s not going to leave any faster than it normally would.

Sort of.

Seems to me part of the point of getting drunk is the drinking.

A quick fix seems to avoid that.

Plus cocaine is not a few second high. It lasts a little while. At $26, even if there are multiple hits, seems pointless to cop a very short lived buzz when downing a shot will give you a lasting one (at $26 you could get five shots or more at a bar and your buzz will least a lot longer…admittedly with hangover side effects though).

Beats me. I guess somehow the alcohol effect zaps to the “I am buzzed” parts of the brain ASAP.

When you drink there is a pool of alcohol that continues to process through your system maintaining the effect till there is no more to draw from. Since this is such a small hit you cop the buzz but it is not maintained (no reserve to draw from).

One has to wonder what happens if you repeatedly hit this thing. The alcohol content is so low I doubt you could OD easily but I am willing to bet someone will abuse it to some absurd degree.

I agree the claims are hard to believe. Certainly not my experience either.

Still one has to wonder. They are going to market this thing. If it is bullshit it will be immediately apparent and flop within a day or two. Admittedly a lot will try for the novelty but is that enough to turn a profit if the thing doesn’t really work?

No clue…I’ll be interested to see how it pans out.
