As phouka pointed out, there are numerous ways of measuring intelligence eg. verbal reasoning, numeracy, spatial awareness etc so some definition needs to be applied here. Personally there were aspects of my academic career that I enjoyed and hence excelled at (top of the class in psychology, 90-99% in most maths exams, top 1% in some verbal/numeracy/spatial test for my social group, albeit as defined by the test authors). At the same time I had to resit an accounting exam and only averaged a mid-grade for the second year because I couldn’t get out of bed - so who do you ask about my intelligence.
Have just finished reading about string theory out of interest but don’t have the first clue about the application as physics and algebra just don’t rock my boat. You wouldn’t want to see me draw or try and make something out of clay. I am continuously impressed by the depth of knowledge displayed in these forums on the various religious leanings that exist but frankly have no interest in anything to do with the Ultimate Question and hence couldn’t contribute anything worthy of discussion
Using some of the ‘trade off’s’ above you could argue in most circles that individuals such as Hawkings, Whitten, Einstein, Da Vinci, Monet etc are incredibly intelligent, but this is as applied within their chosen fields, about which they are passionate. Perhaps they just have a flair for the numerical or spatial reasoning involved. Personally I would have liked any one of them to have worked out some sort of model society that removes basic wants and needs and lets us all concentrate on self or societal development. But that’s just me.
As for the OP I’m pretty sure that a lot of serial killers have ‘above average’ intelligence (and I’m sure I’ll be corrected if wrong in this thread). Sunshine, Plain Jane, Angel of the Lord please be careful, cjhoworth may be getting you into something that is not all that it seems
