In response to KFC’s alleged mistreatment of chickens, some newspaper put out a full page ad supposedly written by Paul Mccartney. The ad claims that chickens are as intelligent as Dogs, cats, and some primates, and that chickens feel a wide range of emotions. Is this true?

Highly unlikely. Predators are nearly always smarter than their prey, for one thing. For another, domesticated animals tend to have lower intelligence than their wild counterparts. The upshot is that chickens may not be as dumb as a bag of hammers, but they’re no avian Einsteins either.
