Inter-Dealer Brokers?

Hi,

Can anyone help me clearly explain what an inter-dealer broker does, and how they fit into the financial markets?

I need to summarise this to a friend who is not in the financial markets.

Thanks!

Jim

An inter-dealer broker, as the name implies, is a broker whose customers are themselves dealers (in securities or whatever it is the broker handles), as opposed to investors. Inter-dealer brokers enable dealers to carry out transactions without revealling their identities.
