Interaction between Mail/Mozilla in OS X

I’m trying to get links that show up in my emails (using Apple’s Mail) to open up in Mozilla, but I can’t figure out how. I have it set up that way on one of my computers, but I just got a new one and can’t figure out where that setting is. Help!

Thanks in advance.

Keep in mind that I haven’t used a Mac since before OSX came out, so I could be totally off. Anyway, Mozilla should have an option in its preferences to set it as the default Web browser. That should cause links in Mail to open in Moz. If not you may want to poke around in Mail’s settings and see if it has any options on where to direct links.

I’m at work and can’t check this firsthand right now, but there are two places I’d poke around in:

  1. Mail’s Preferences.
  2. The “Internet” preference pane (the light switch/control panel thingie)

I vaguely recall that, at least with MacOS X 10.2, the “Internet” preference pane allowed you to specify the default browser to use for various tasks.

There are two artists performing under the monicker “Mozilla” – the Aqua version and the X11 version.

If you want a link in Mail to open in the X11 version of Mozilla, you’re barking up a tree taller than I know how to climb. X11 apps are pretty oblivious to most anything going on in Aqua.

Assuming you want the Aqua version of Mozilla to open the link, though, …
10.0 through 10.2.8: open Internet SysPrefs Pane and instruct the OS to comprehend Mozilla as the tool for web browsing

10.3.x: you’d never guess – open Safari, prowl around in Safari preferences until you find the one in which Safari has crowned itself emperor of html, and dethrone it in favor of Mozilla. Alternatively, download More Internet, a freeware SysPrefs Pane, and you should be able to designate any of a wide range of internet apps, including your choice of FTP app and newsgroup-reader app and telnet app and so forth. I assume it has a built-in setting for HTTP but if it doesn’t you just add it.
