Interleague play is the third biggest blasphemy that MLB has introduced over the years. The biggest, of course, is the DH, followed closely by the stupid “All-Star game counts” thing because Selig was too big an idiot to not realize nobody cares about the outcome of an exhibition game and even less if everyone on the bench gets in the game.
Hate it.
Reasons given above. The main one being every game against a AL opponent is a game taken away from a division rival, or at least another league team. If you are trying to catch a playoff spot you want to be playing the other teams competing with you, not some panty-waist AL team.
I don’t care about the AL. I know the NL pretty much backwards and forwards but I’d be hard pressed to name all the AL teams. I don’t think I’ve ever watched an AL game. It holds no interest for me. It’s a different league! To me it makes as much sense as if the NFL started scheduling games agains the CFL in the middle of the season. (Hyperbolic, I know, but that’s how I feel)
While I know there are problems with the current unbalanced schedule, I think part of it is to try to keep the teams within the same time zone as often as possible.
West teams playing on the east have a 4 o clock start time and of course ast teams start at 10 at night when they’re playing a night game out west. This hurts all tv ratings.
Of course, the Texas Rangers get hurt the most by this as they have all 3 of their divisional opponents two time zones away!
