International flights CONNECTIONS - a good website?

Help please dopers. I am a recently arrived expat here in Angola. There are no efficient travel agencies here and I work for a local company with limited support so it is best to do it yourself.

I can download flight schedules for individual airlines but it is a real task to try to figure out the quickest and/or more reliable connections to get me from (a) to (b).

Now Angola to Portugueses-speaking countries, to the UK and to Jo’burg is easy, but more complex routes?

An example. I am trying to get out to Singapore Xmas to see my girlfriend but the sole Luanda-Angola daily flight misses the sole Jo’burg-Singapore flight by half an hour. Can I find another routing to get me there quicker than waiting until the next day? Well there is another direct flight Durban-Singapore, and there are flights Jo’burg-Dubai connecting to Dubai-Singapore and even Jo’burg-(India or Pakistan someplace)-Singapore. You get the picture.

Now I know you can buy a very expensive subscription to several massive books plus updates (and maybe a web based version) but I imagine the subscription is huge.

Do any dopers in the travel industry? Any that know of a reliable website that will link together multi-airline routes and schedules to help me out here. Google was the starting point but there are so many links that turn out to be trying to sell me flights with no such info that I thought I would try you guys.

Can anyone help???

Well if you have $8K to spare http://www.expedia can get you from Luanda to Singapore.

http://www.travelocity.com will do it for $2K.

Perhaps the most useful thing you can get at these sites is the airlines that do the connections along with flight numbers and times so you can then have more of a handle on doing your own research.
