International Peace Garden (ND/Canada) Has anyone been there?

I’ve been thinking of heading up to see the International Peace Garden, and I was wondering if anyone has been there?

It straddles the US/Canadian border, in North Dakota/Manitoba.

Has anyone been there? Was it worth going? How long is a reasonable time to spend there (1/2 day, multi-day?) Are bicycles allowed?

Well, I’ve been there. It’s been years and years though, so it might have changed.

It’s a huge flower garden in the middle of a big park, so if you like camping it’s a good place for that. But the focus is on peace themed stuff, with massive, unnatural arrangements of flowers. I much prefer the forest.

So I’d say If you’re just going for the flowers and stuff, 1/2 day is plenty. It’s better if you like camping and spend some time in the area. Bikes are allowed.

Is it worth going? I wouldn’t bother unless I was right there.

I also haven’t been there in years, but my memory is also that it’s a large formal garden. Very nice, if you like that kind of thing. I’d call ahead to make sure how much is in bloom.

Also, note the travel notice: “U.S. citizens traveling south upon exit from the Peace Garden who satisfactorily establish to a CBP officer that they entered the Peace Garden from the U.S. are not required to present a WHTI-compliant document.
While WHTI-compliant documents are not required of U.S. citizens visiting the Peace Garden, the approved-travel documents are highly recommended for all travelers, as they greatly facilitate inspection and reduce wait times at the border.”

I take that to mean that you don’t need a passport to get back in the U.S., but it would probably be a very good idea to have one. Quite a change from how things were when I visited the Peace Garden with my family when I was a child.
