My wife flies to Paris for a business trip at the end of the week and needs to get some cash for the trip.
I assume the Euro is accepted everywhere now or does she still need some Francs?
Where should she get her US dollars exchanged? At the US airport currency exchange booth? At the Paris airport exchange booth?
Or should she use her US Bank checking/debit/visa card at a Paris airport ATM and get Euros there?
They use euros in France now, and from my experience in other countries, the best way to get them is at the first ATM that you find at the airport.
Yeah, its Euros all the way over here now (and has been since 2002 I think). ISTR that you get the best exchange rates by just going to the ATM and getting money out in local currency.
To hijack slightly, does that work in reverse? When I go to Boston, is the best exchange rate going to be if I just use my card in an ATM at the airport, or would I do to get some dollars before I leave?
I always exchange a few dollars to Euros (say $50) before heading over so I have some cash when I get off the plane in case I need it before finding an ATM.
Indeed - you haven’t been able to spend francs for over six years now.
There will be ATMs aplenty at the airport (assuming she is flying into a main Paris airport, which she will be if coming from the US). No need to exchange before she goes, unless she wants to.
