I posted some messages on some Internet newsgroups. These were fairly innocuous messages. None of them contained my name, and I made sure that my e-mail address did not appear either. I even checked the message headers, and this did not appear either.
I was shocked to learn that some guy who works for an ISP has been tracking which messages I’ve been posting, even though I had stripped it of the aforementioned info. FTR, his ISP is not the one which I’ve been using.
How can he do this? It seems like a blatant violation of privacy to me. (In case you’re wondering, this fellow is the son of a former employer of mine.)
I’m sure the employer of this guy would be very dishartened with that behavour. I would speak to the managment of the ISP and give them what ever information you have. I’m sure if there is not enough information to fire this guy, they will help you by monitoring him at work. Get the courts on his ass when you can.
Do you happen to have a permanent connection to the internet? That would leave our connection as the same IP address everytime you went on line. Put up a firewall and run in stealth mode. Here’s a link for a free security check and firewall software. It’s very good.
