I don’t know about the official beginning of the Internet as such, but I’m pretty sure the WWW got up and running in the early 90’s. I became a web surfer in the mid 90’s. Be that as it may, the cohort born after the Intenet was a fact of life is approaching the age to produce offspring. Some may already be parents!
What will the Internet Baby Boom (kids born without personal knowledge that there was a BI (Before Internet) era) produce in the way of Popular Culture?
How will that culture differ from the After TV generation?
How will those remaining oldsters who may recall the days before radio and movies relate to such a crowd?
How will the AI (After Internet) generation affect Politics? Religion? Society in general?
Speculate to your heart’s content. It’s not too long before we can see for ourselves.
Ok, I thought this thread was gonna discuss the baby boom brought about by the internet via online dating. Suddenly, the geeks of the world are finding mates and reproducing!
I’m not quite sure I’d put the line right at the popularity of the world wide web. I’m thinking I’d put it right around the first Gulf War. To me, that was the time where the world really was getting smaller. I watched a war on television that was happening right then. Also, the early 90s had the widespread use of cellphones.
As far as politics/religion, I don’t think the new technology really makes that much of a difference. I’ll agree that media is and will continue to change. Obviously, we’re so far past the 3 network tv world. You might say one political influence is the ability for those of a particular political persuasion to surround themselves with their own point of view.
