Internet Explorer Trouble

I installed IE 7, had no problems whatsoever, and am finding it to be the best IE yet. Firefox is OK, but its noticably slower on the richer media sites. The only thing I dont like is the command bar. No matter how many times I delete those canned links, they keep coming back. Also I cant get rid of that “search” pane. That would be good. Other than those two things, the browser is the least intrusive (interface wise) of any of the browsers I use (particularly safari on the mac).

I have Adobe’s Creative Suite, Flash professional, sorenson squeeze, sketchup, strata, Dreamweaver/Fireworks, Google Earth, After effects, Cool Edit pro, Fruity Loops, and a bunch of proprietary java and open source software running, and no interruptions to any by this install, I find it hard to understand how this browser could cause some of the rather extreme problems mentioned in this thread.

Ive also had no problems on any of the other computers on my network which are all running IE7 now.

Thanks for the info!

Me too, but there’s very little doubt that it’s the culprit. After I fixed my disk corruption the first time, I was advised by someone on another site to go ahead and install IE7, because it must just have been a coincidence. It wasn’t - it corrupted the disk again - this time, it happened halfway through the installation process - a scary balloon popped out of the taskbar saying “$mft is missing or corrupt”

somehow, I think your problem runs a little deeper than IE 7. Thousands, in fact probably millions of people have downloaded it, and that issue isnt common, or it would have made headlines. You might want to check your install of windows XP, possibly check to ensure you have the latest version/updates.

I find the IE7 interface to be quite ugly, and strangely arranged. Apparently it’s trying to be like Vista, as it will similarly have things in different locations, but that just makes me not want Vista. And I will hold out on getting Vista for as long as I can, too.

I am a diehard Firefox user anyways.

I’ve done that - My system was completely up-to-date, sound and malware-free before I ran the install. Yes, it’s rare, but I’m not the only person experiencing it.

There was a similarly-rare (although unrelated) problem with SP2 - caused BSODs for a small number of users, but the reaction there was the same - i.e. “everyone else is OK, it must be something you did wrong”.
