A good topic: this site is pretty much a subculture of a subculture. This is a subculture of the internet, one of the greatest social experiments ever. This site is unique due to the types of ppl on it, insomniacs (/me) , kids, adults and the elderly. What is this doing to america, is it a good impact?
Subculture?
I thought real life was the subculture these days!
Y’forgot the depressives, the expressives, the orgiasts, the road-ragers, the prudes and the crudes, the innocent and the vile. Even this provides no summary for the fauna here today.
On matters of computer heritage and folklore, I like to consult the Jargon File. I found a passage that’s moderately appropriate to this thread:
Obviously we have more than just hackers on this board, but I think the idea still holds up.
yes, and it even goes further than that, english works as good common language (so why change a working thing) and even factors like age and sovial standing are second rated to the actual things a person on the net does. a 15 year old pupil can get the same attention and respect to his words as a 40 year old manager as long as both argument good.(no hijack here please that a 40 year old manager is surely better trained in the way of words, we all know that;))
Seen this way the Internet(sub)culture is surely a good model for a culture that sees the individual first.
