I’ve been looking for work long and hard, and I’ve applied for about a million different things. I got an email today from a local business that says, "I would like to invite you to [business name] for an interview some time next week. Please let me know your availability (day and time). "
I looked up the business to refresh my memory of what I applied for there, but there is nothing that I remember. I looked on their web site at available jobs, but there is nothing that jogs my memory there either.
So what now? Do I admit I don’t know what I applied for and ask? Do I just go in to the interview blind? Help!
As for advice, why not reply back with availability, and when called in, hope that the interviewer says, So, Mr. Verde, I see you were applying for the ______ position…
Then set an appointment to go in and meet with them whenever you are free. If it comes down to it, just ask them to explain the position in more detail and see if they will tell you about it without you having to admit you don’t remember applying.
I’ve had interviews like those. What I though was an interview at home security call center turned out be selling knives door-to-door, or the receptionist position that involved calling businesses in Canada to try to get them to switch merchant processing services.
Exactly. Someone else may have a copy of your resume for somewhere else you applied and forwarded it to a friend at this company thinking you might be a good fit.
