Intestinal gas question

When gas passes from your colon to your rectum and is not passed there appears to be a relief eventually even though the gas was not passed. My question is where does it go if not out? Does it go back into the colon again to wait for another chance?

Essentially, yes. The colon is a dynamic organ, relaxing and contracting constantly in its never-ending effort to absorb fluids from fecal material and move said material out. Strong urges to pass flatus generally subside as the section of the bowel which is contracting begin to relax, and the gas bubble is under less pressure. Eventually, everything except the liquids will work it’s way out.
