Into the sunset, so to speak

If MSNBC is more accurate in [UEL=“http://www.msnbc.com/news/437418.asp”]this story than the Irish air disaster hoax the Concorde may be soon for its last flight. Air france has been given a provisional flight certificate to get a stranded plane from JFK back to France. There seems to be no chance of the Concorde winning back an airworthiness certificate as it would have to be redesigned to withstand the debris from a blown tire.

The end of an era that never was to be. Damn, it is such a cool plane!

That crash could have happened to ANY plane. Then again, Concorde never made a profit. Surely, they’re not gonna make one NOW. And the prestige is gone.

Into the sunset it is.

Here is that first link.

Actually Coldfire it probably wouldn’t have happened to other planes. Airliners have to be proven durable enough to withstand the tire debris that felled the Concorde. The Concorde has just been lucky all these years to never have had such a bad failure.

FWIW one of the most spectacular tire failures I’ve seen was on a navy F-14 flown by the skipper of my sqadron. The main tires are almost four feet tall and inflated to 300psi at sea, almost a pair of bombs in themselves. When the plane took off in a roar of afterburner flame from the catapult… we discovered that he still had the parking brake set. The mains were completely locked. From then on his nickname was “Boom-boom.” He landed the plane safely
