"Intolerance" (1916) Hebrew writing

This DW Griffith classic uses stone tablets with Hebrew writing to introduce the Biblical segments.

What was it? Just random letters, or was it something out of the Bible?

Likewise, after Jesus scolds the folks wanting to get Mary Magdelene stoned, writing in the sand in the process, we are shown the writing in the sand (curiously, also written in Hebrew, although I would have presumed it should have been Aramaic or Greek).

What did that say?

Some have speculated it was the sins of individuals wanting to stone her – Jesus said let he who is without sins cast the first stone, he was showing them one by one that each of them had sinned and was detailing those sins.
