Inventing new punctuation for William Shatner

Okay, this is extremely mundane and pointless, but I think that there needs to be a new punctuation symbol for William Shatner’s style of delivery. Actually I was talking about this with a friend, and I think I have come up with a perfect symbol. I think I’ll try to create it and upload it so you’ll see it in all it’s full glory along with an example of dialogue.

Here’s a sample of the dialogue in question:

Storage Compartments

From…what else? The trouble with tribbles!

And here is my version, which I have faithfully encoded using my new Kirk punctuations…

Example

I think this is a really good way to transcribe many of Shatner’s subtle irregularities when portraying Kirk. The questcolon really sort of captures kirks slightly indifferent interest which quickly fades into slight contempt the second time he says it. This is what the exclamaticolon is for. It accurately softens the full force of an exclamation point.

What do you think? Yes I like wasting my time, apparently.

PS, if anyone here knows anyone with any input in the ISO standard keyboard characters, the please let me know. I’d be more than willing to let go of these for the right price ;?

I just use ellipses, sometimes with extra dots to indicate the length of the pause. If you want to capture the full subtlety of such a noted thespian, you need flexible punctuation.
