Buy the ugliest, beat-up WHITE shoes.
Put them in a nice box with a bow, and enclose a card:
Happy Labor Day - I won’t be needing these for awhile and thought you might like to have them!

I don’t get it.
It’s often considered a huge fashion faux pas to wear white shoes between Labor Day and Memorial Day. Giving such a “gift” would insinuate that your host/hostess not only doesn’t mind worn out hand-me-downs, but is gauche enough to break this “rule.”
I probably would not get invited to any more parties if I tried this!
