Does anyone know if there’s an app that would make the virtual keyboard on an iPhone larger? The keyboard is becoming more difficult for me to use. I’m hoping to avoid going to voice recognition, at least for now.
Thank you.
There’s Big Keys in the app store ($3.99). Or you might try the external Apple Magic Keyboard, which pairs to the iPhone via Bluetooth but costs $99.
Thank you. I’ll check them both. Unless the Magic Keyboard becomes very small when not in use, it won’t be practical. It might work for my iPad…
I recall seeing portable keyboards that could be folded or rolled up compactly, but when in use they would have to be placed on a flat surface.
I have a generic bluetooth keyboard which folds in half so just a little bigger than my iPhone. But I have it mated to my laptop, iPad, and iPhone as it sits very well in my lap with whichever device I am using on a plane. It switches easily between the devices. And I charge it maybe 4x per year via USB. It was $30 and I can remember why I ever used my iPhone without it. I mean browsing is fine, but emails and messages are faster to pull out my keyboard and type out a response.
Just Amazon foldable bluetooth keyboard for dozens of options.
If you have an iPhone 6s or later, you can make the keyboard a bit larger by going to Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom and changing the “View” from “Standard” to “Zoomed.” This will slightly increase the sizes of some interface elements such as text, icon sizes, notifications, etc including the keyboard. If you want a little more keyboard oomph, rotate your iPhone to landscape mode which will expand the keyboard even more. This expanded landscape mode version of the keyboard works with the display set to standard, too.
Depending on what your specific need for a larger keyboard is, you might also want to try switching the display text to bold which makes the letters on the keys stand out more. To change this, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and turn on “Bold Text.” This will bold text throughout the interface, not just the keyboard.
The way many Android keyboards handle this is by assuming you’ll hit the wrong letters as you type, but then offering you good autosuggestions at the word level. I see one such keyboard, Swiftkey, is available on IOS as well… could that help? Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard on the App Store
(For example, if I wanted to type the word “hello”, I might accidentally thumb in “jrkli” because those letters are close, but it’ll still suggest “hello” as I’m typing those wrong letters. Pretty smart system and much faster than pecking down individual letters.)
