The Iowa Supreme Court struck down the state’s statutory same-sex marriage ban this morning in a unanimous 7-0 decision.
Iowa has a fairly cumbersome Constitutional amendment process, having to pass an amendment through two separate sessions of the state legislature, so even if an amendment to overturn this is initiated, it could take 3 years for it to pass and be enacted.
Iowa is the first state in the nation’s heartland to have same-sex marriage legalized.
