Don’t you find it easier to assign your static IP addresses from the DHCP server configuration rather than each individual device? Certainly it is fewer keystrokes or mouse clicks. On a home router, you can let the device reserve a DHCP lease and then lock it down – no need to find and type in the MAC address.
And while this doesn’t happen very often, if you need to change the DNS servers, you can do it from one place, the DHCP server configuration, rather than visiting each individual device.
Obviously, the number of devices determines the level of pain and this is a much bigger consideration for Comcast than for a small office.
