IPad question

Just got a new IPad…actually the old version which are being sold at deep discouts…at any rate, I am looking for an app that will allow me to write documents which I could then transfer readily to my PC (Vista operating system)

I would appreciate any help I could get. If my grandkids were here, they would probably be able to answer my question, but for now, I’m depending on you!

Thanks

Office HD is about $10. and it uses both MS Word and MS Excel formats.

In practice however I usually just use notepad and email myself the file. It’s easy to grab it from the email and format it in whatever desktop program I want.

I use Office HD mainly to read documents that I created on the PC and do minor updates.

If you search the App Store, you’ll find plenty of applications that promise to read and write MS Office files of various types.

With my wife’s iPad, we just use remote connections and work with the original version of Office on the computer.

On my old Palm, I used DocumentsToGo with some success. I know there’s an iPad version of that in the App Store.

If you just want to write text (no fonts or fancy formatting) you can use the Notes app, which is built-in. Or email.

You can configure iTunes to automatically sync Notes with Outlook on your PC each time you plug it in to your computer.

How is the file transferability? Does it lose formatting going back and forth?

What file formats? What programs are you using on the PC?
Apple has its own word processor on the iPad (Pages) and spreadsheet (Numbers).

I use Open Office on my mac and PC, and usually save to a .doc so that there’s no issues if I need to use a PC at school.
