iPhone Security

Hi All, this may have been asked and answered but if so I couldn’t find it (surprise!) is there an IPhone case that provides security for someone trying to steal your info by proximity technology? You know just like when you transfer info from one IPhone to another?

Just turn off those transfer features until / unless you’re actively using them.

Take a look at this:

How to use AirDrop on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (CA).

Any case that prevented connections would mean than Wifi, cellular, Bluetooth, and Apple Pay wouldn’t work either.

I don’t care. That’s what I want actually.

If you don’t want to use wifi, cellular or Bluetooth, what use is having a phone?

So turn off the settings I linked to, turn off cellular, Bluetooth, and wifi. Now you have a fancy music player.

Or just turn the iPhone off completely whenever it’s not in your hsnd actively being used. And even then only turn on the radio features you’re actively using at that moment.

You’re being tracked ever second it has connectivity to anything via any mode. Leave it off or leave it home. It’s the only way to be sure.

Especially if one is a TX Rebel in what may become a totalitarian police country in a few months.

I want to use them when I want to use them and be able to protect my phone the rest of the time. Still rolling the dice but limiting my exposure.

A couple things to mention (everything upthread is pretty good, but just extra points):

  1. Is your iPhone a reasonably current model? iPhones are better than most android about being software supported (including security) long past similarly-aged Android models, but if you’re running something old enough, and are this worried about security, you may need to update.
  2. Is your iOS up to date? Because if that’s out of date, you’re more vulnerable to known issues, which, again, are less of an issue than most android options, but still can be exploited.
  3. What apps are you using? Because again, it’s another point of vulnerability when you do choose to go online as it were.
  4. Similarly, what sort of websites you visit can leave you open to all sorts of browser hijacks and exploits, so limit where you go if security is a major issue.
  5. Bluetooth - make sure to go to settings and turn Bluetooth off absolutely - if you end up just hitting the shortcut, it normally only turns it off for 24 hours.
  6. Once Bluetooth is fully disabled, and you’ve disabled Airdrop as @FinsToTheLeft suggested, you can use Airplane mode as a fast on-off for your window of vulnerability. May be easier than manually turning on which options you want to use, such as cellular and wifi, or anything else you might want to use.
