iPhone users: How often do you reboot it?

I’ve been finding more and more simple Aps don’t work properly unless I reboot regularly. Not sure why this is, but it’s a royal PITA and I’m at the point now where I turn it off and on at the beginning of every day. Is that normal?

Some examples:

  • The “find contacts” ap (more of a function) doesn’t work.
  • The “screen adjust to which way the phone is oriented” doesn’t work.
  • The map ap doesn’t show traffic even though “show traffic” is selected.

All of these, and others, recover once I reboot.

Never. But mine is only 8 months old. 6S.

Maybe once every couple of weeks if it seems sluggish.

I only reboot when something like that happens, which isn’t very often. If you are having to do that every day then there is some app that is screwing things up.

It depends on how it’s behaving. I think I might have some software that isn’t playing nice. I’ll admit to a bit of a solitaire addiction, and sometimes a notification while playing will cause the iPhone to lock up. I have other issues with other apps now and again.

Powering it off and then back on doesn’t always fix the problem, I find it more useful to hold down the wake button and the home screen button to reboot the whole shebang.

I don’t keep track, but I think I reboot it two or three times a month.

I’ve always thought this is more a ‘warm boot’ than a full restart (power off/on). Holding the wake/power button down until you get the ‘power off?’ screen then, while still holding down the wake/power button, you hold down the home button until the home screen reappears. Actually I’ve read that this merely frees up any memory in use, it doesn’t close any open apps or anything. It’s certainly a lot faster than cycling the power.

I find myself doing this maybe once or twice a week.

I don’t know that I have to do it every day, but it’s a PITA to have do it only when it’s not working right, and that’s more than once a week. It’s easier to just power off in the morning everyday and then not worry about it.

Every few months, perhaps. Not more often than that.

About once a month, and I use mine for software development, too, so I’m crashing apps on it a lot.

Can you be more specific about “simple apps don’t work properly?”. If you’re seeing weekly+ problems that are affecting multiple apps, there’s probably something wrong with your device; take it in to an Apple Store if you can.

I have rebooted maybe 2 times since last September. iPhone 6S. I have to close and reopen apps sometimes but even those not too often.

I basically never do a hard reboot except for updates. I almost never even do a soft shutdown. It’s basically always “on”.

Sounds like something is messed up. There were some reports of hardware problems with the early run of iPhone 6 (not the newer s model); memory corruption, random reboots, etc. iPhone 6 - Wikipedia Might be that.

6S, maybe once every 1-2 months. OP it sounds like you’ve loaded a bad app that is hogging resources. Look at your recently added apps loaded shortly before you noticed the problem. Either read up on them to see if other users are having similar problems, or, keep track as you delete them one at a time to see if you can isolate the bad app.

Hopefully it’s just one bad app, but rarely, it might be a combination of 2 or more that don’t play well together.

This.

Now having said that, I am on the beta track so I get updates every couple of weeks.

I gave my personal iPhone the boot, but my work iPhone needs to be rebooted every time the sound stops working. which is about once every couple of weeks.

Lately, my phone (6, no S nor Plus) has a weird habit of deciding not to charge. It seems to be a software issue, since a reboot fixes it. So for the past couple months, it’s get a fortnightly or so reboot. Prior to that, probably closer to bi-monthly.

Hardly ever. If it starts to misbehave, I remind myself that it’s probably ages since I closed all those apps working away in the background. If that isn’t enough to fix whatever it’s doing wrong, I’ll reboot. It’s probably about two or three months since I’ve done so.

I’ve had my 6S since January, I think I’ve rebooted it once for a Software Update. I turned it off once when I was traveling a long way and needed it to be on and close to 100% when I arrived at my destination.

I don’t think I’ve had an app-crash on my iPhone. My iPad, on the other hand, has crashed a couple of times.

Never to my knowledge. Well, sometimes when there is an OS update. Come to think of it I can remember rebooting a couple of times, I can’t remember why. I have turned it off on occasion though. I have had my iPhone for a couple of years.

When system-updating or every couple of months, whichever comes first. I’ve also never lost the habit of turning it all the way off inflight so there’s that.
