iPhone VS cell phones the world over

I think we’ve all heard that the US lags behind many cultures when it comes to cell phone technology. Last I heard, US phones are usually a few years behind their overseas counterparts.

As such, I’m curious how the iPhone stacks up against its international brothers. Is it seen as large of a leap overseas as it does here? How does the screen and features compare?

I think it’s more the US cell phone network that’s behind the ROTW, rather than the phones themselves - they’re the same few brands and models everywhere. As the iPhone uses one of the standard US networks I don’t see it will change anything in this respect.

Yeah, I too was under the impression that the implementation of cell networks, and receiver-pays billing systems which discourage use, were culprits, not a lack of fancy features on phones. (On the other hand, if somebody’s upgrading to their third handset in six years rather than their fifth or sixth in ten, they’re less likely to be demanding as many features.)

The iPhone is getting a European launch a few months later, and the reactions I’ve heard from anyone here are (a) yep, it looks gorgeous, with a fantastic interface, and (b) it doesn’t do a huge amount my current phone lacks and that I’ll actually want to use.
